Airlie beach is a town in Queensland, it is another tourist hotspot and is part of the Whitsundays.
Airlie beach was named for the parish of Airlie, located in Scotland. The name was suggested by a chairman of a Proserpine shire council, his name was Robert Shepherd, who was born nearby Airlie in Montrose. The name for Airlie beach remained Airlie from 1936 to 1987, when in 1987 it officially became Airlie beach.
The Airlie beach post office opened on the 2nd of November 1959.
