Atherton is a small town in the Atherton tablelands in Queensland
History[]
Atherton was named after John Atherton who also first settled at Emerald's End or Mareeba as it would later be known. The Post Office opened in 1903. The War Memorial was dedicated to those who died in WWi in 1924. The Courthouse was used as a hospital during WWII and has Raid Bunkers beneath the building
