Matilda is a 13 metre tall kangaroo used a mascot for the 1982 Commonwealth Games held in Brisbane

Commonwealth Games Edit

Matilda was first unveiled in the opening ceremony of the commonwealth games in 1982. She became famous for her winking to the crowd, She wears a medal with the logo of the Commonwelath games on it. During the ceremony heaps of small children dressed as kangaroo's were unveiled from her pouch and started to perform tricks. She also appeared in the Closing Ceremony of the games.

Post-Commonwealth Games Edit

After the Commonwealth Games, she was taken to Wet N Wild on the Gold Coast. In 2007, Matilda was dismantled for repair. Eventually she was reassembled and relocated to her current resting place, a Matilda Service Station in Gympie.
